Five Ways To Unwind | Trends

By Oh My Clumsy Heart

Most of us spend a huge chunk of our time browsing websites and watching television; whether it's YouTube videos or Netflix marathons, the habits we fall into when it comes to our spare time can be frustrating. There are better ways we can spend our time, activities that add value and makes us feel good while still helping us to unwind and relax. Here are five ways you can unwind without relying on the Internet to entertain you:

1 | Work On A Side Project

Maybe you've always wanted to learn another language or a skill, finish a DIY project you started last year, or take up a new hobby; instead of browsing websites or scrolling through social media, work on a side project instead. Carve out a little time each week for yourself to indulge in a passion project, it'll give you something to look forward to at the end of the working week and you'll reap the benefits of that wonderful feeling of accomplishment once you've finished.

2 | Read A Good Book

Whether you prefer a well-loved paperback or an eReader, spend your evenings reading a good book instead of watching back-to-back episodes on Netflix. There's nothing wrong with a marathon of your favourite tv show but curling up in your favourite spot with a book and a cup of tea is one of the most satisfying ways to spend your spare time.

3 | Brew The Perfect Cup of Tea

Boiling water, steeping loose leaf tea, and slowly drinking a freshly brewed cup is one of the most soothing rituals you can partake in. The ritual of brewing the perfect cup has a soothing, meditative effect that encourages us to slow down and relax, helping to lift our mood, allowing us to unwind after a long day. Try these 6 teas for self-care and use this time to reflect on your day, focus on your goals, and meditate.

4 | Stretch It Out

Looking for a way to relax and reset your body for the day ahead (or the night before)? Try yoga. It's a no-stress activity that doesn't require any fancy equipment or gear, and combines exercise with meditation that helps care for both your body and mind. If you're a complete beginner you'll need to learn a few basic yoga poses in preparation, from then on you'll be able to incorporate yoga into your daily routine to a ritual that will help kick start your days and get more restful night's sleep.

5 | Pamper Yourself

If you feel guilty pampering yourself, don't! We all deserve a little self-care. Light a candle, put on a face mask, and take a long bath; allow yourself a little self-indulgence from time to time. Whatever it is that makes you feel pampered, give yourself permission to indulge in it.
